'Thieves In My Garden'.
The Idol Priapus. Greek God of Fertility.
Twenty Eight Inches Tall. Limited to 100.
Son of Aphrodite.
Brother to Eros, Hermaphroditus, Harmonia.
God of Fertility, Vegetation, the Garden, and all things living & growing therein.
In ancient times the Idol of Priapus was placed in a garden as a deterrent to would be thieves, and for spiritual reasons that would result in a plentiful harvest.
I am doing a very Modern-Hellenic interpretation, young and handsome, Adonis-like.
Its what I call 'splinter-faithing' a phenomenon that was going on around
the time of 300BCE - 100CE where Egyptian, Greek, roman deities were being
splintered together. The Isis-Aphrodite, The Anubis-Hermes, are good examples.
I have splintered Daphnis, Priapus, youthful and faun-like with the horns,
giving him a very feral, earthly feel.
All life was centered around the harvest. A good harvest meant food was plentiful, and life was good. Thus, fertility was closely associated with the Harvest.
The Earth, and all things living and growing. Those are main elements in my art.
Other deities I will probably splinter:
Athena-Sekhmet.
Hathor-Hedone.
Hermaphroditus-Hapii.
Juno-Nekhbet.
The list could get even longer.
